An Emollient
Emollients act as a patch to fill any cracks that dryness can cause to your skin. It smoothes and softens the skin during this process.
When the top layer of your skin does not contain enough water, your skin can crack and flake off, leaving open spaces between the cells in your skin. Emollients fill the spaces with a fatty substance called lipids, which makes your skin smoother and softer.
We use colloidal oatmeal as our emollient which is proven to be a skin protectant. It contains fats, proteins, vitamins and minerals which help with inflammation and oxidation.
A Humectant
A humectant is a hydrator whose main function is to help retain moisture in the skin. It draws moisture to the skin's surface so that the skin does not end up drying out quickly. Humectants can often hold up to 100 - 1000 times their weight in moisture.
We use vegetable glycerin as our humectant. It is a clear, odourless liquid with a sweet taste. It occurs naturally sugar alcohol compound found in vegetable fats such as soy, coconut, and palm oils.
